How Crypto Referral Codes Work

Last checked October 22, 2026

A referral code links your new account to the person or affiliate who invited you. The exchange pays that referrer a share of the trading fees you generate, and in return usually gives you something: a voucher, a fee discount, or a fixed cash reward.

Three Kinds of Rewards

Task vouchers: you complete steps such as a first deposit or a minimum trading volume within a deadline, and receive vouchers that can only be used to pay fees or as futures margin. Bybit and Binance's "Referral Lite" work this way.

Fee rebates (kickbacks): the referrer gives back part of their commission, so you pay less on every trade, often for a fixed period. Binance "Referral Pro" codes, for example, can share 0, 5 or 10% with you.

Fixed rewards: you get a set amount in crypto after verifying and buying or trading a minimum amount. Coinbase, Kraken and Crypto.com use this model, and the amount depends on your country.

When You Can Enter a Code

Almost always only during registration. Binance, OKX and KuCoin state this explicitly; BingX is an exception and allows adding a code until your first deposit or trade. If you already have an account, a new code generally cannot be attached to it.

Why Headline Bonuses Mislead

"Up to 30,000 USDT" is the sum of every task in a new-user programme, including tiers that require millions in volume. The amount most people can realistically get is the first one or two tiers. Our exchange pages quote the official tiers so you can see what applies to you.

Staying Safe

Only enter codes on the exchange's official domain. Fake "official" codes and look-alike sign-up pages are common; a real code never requires you to send funds to anyone. Bonuses are never a reason to use an exchange that is not allowed where you live.
