How the Kraken Referral Program Works

Kraken, founded in 2011, is one of the oldest exchanges still operating and has a strong reputation for security and compliance. Its referral rewards depend on the plan Kraken offers at the time, from milestone rewards to a share of trading fees.

Kraken now runs several referral plans, and the general terms leave the amounts to each plan: milestone rewards, a "lootbox" with a random crypto amount, a revenue share in which the referrer earns a percentage of your net trading fees (and you may get cashback), and a Krak debit card referral in the EEA, UK and US. Which plan applies and what each side gets is shown in the app or on the referral link's offer page.

To qualify you must be new to Kraken, sign up through the referral link, complete verification and hold an ID issued by the country you chose at sign-up. Trades between fiat and stablecoins, between stablecoins, of bundles and of equities don't count, and the reward is revoked if you close the account within a month. Code sites promising 10–20% cashback may be describing the revenue-share plan, but we can't verify a given link's rate.

How to Apply the Kraken Code

Open the referral link: under Kraken's terms you have to sign up through it.
Create your account on kraken.com. A referral can't be added afterwards.
Verify your account with an ID issued by the country you chose at sign-up. Standard checks are often instant and usually take under 45 minutes.
Check the plan's Promotion Details in the app to see what each side gets.
Trade as the plan requires. Fiat-to-stablecoin and stablecoin-to-stablecoin trades, bundles and equities don't count, and closing the account within a month cancels the reward.

Forgot the Code? Adding It Later

The referral must be applied when you create the account; Kraken does not offer a way to add it afterwards.

Proof of address documents must be no older than 3 months. As of October 2026 Kraken warns of delays with new accounts and asks you not to submit verification twice.

Who Can Use It: Eligibility and Countries

Kraken has left Japan and restricts some products in certain US states (e.g. New York and Washington); sanctioned countries are excluded. Kraken referral codes are 8 lowercase characters.

Local rules: Availability depends on where you live, not on the code. In the US and UK many global exchanges either run a separate local entity or do not accept new clients, and the UK FCA requires crypto promotions to come from authorised or registered firms. Always check the exchange's list of restricted countries before you deposit.

Common Problems and Fixes

My trades don't count towards the reward

Trades between fiat and stablecoins, between two stablecoins, bundles and equities are excluded. Trade other crypto pairs.

The reward was taken back

Kraken revokes referral rewards if the account is closed within one month.

Verification doesn't go through

Your ID has to be issued by the country you selected at sign-up. If your address can't be confirmed automatically, Kraken may ask for a face photo instead of a proof of address.

I already had a Kraken account

Referral rewards are only for new clients; an existing account can't be linked to a referrer.

Did Kraken raise its fees?

For small traders, yes: on 9 July 2026 the entry tier changed from 0.25% / 0.40% to 0.40% / 0.80%, while larger traders and holders can reach lower tiers faster.

What does a Kraken code look like?

Eight lowercase letters and digits.

Does using a Kraken referral code cost anything?

No. The referrer is paid by Kraken out of the trading fees, not by you. Codes that share part of that commission with you (a "kickback" or fee rebate) can actually lower your fees.

Can I use more than one code?

No. An account can be linked to one referrer only, and the link is set when the account is created. Choose the code before you register.

Are the bonus amounts on code sites real?

Large "up to" figures are usually the maximum of a whole new-user task programme that very few users complete. We show the exchange's own terms instead, so you know what is realistic.
